Next Steps
Have you made a commitment to follow Jesus?
We are so excited for you! We have prepared some simple nexts steps for you to take in your journey. Please read below. The adventure begins.
Are you not really sure?
Are you a bit confused on how to “accept Jesus” or how to repent? The first thing to remember is: keep it simple. There is no secret formula.
There was a man next to Jesus on the cross, he just said “Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom.” And that was his “accepting Jesus” moment. Just talk to God. Tell him you believe in Him, tell him that you’re sorry for your sin, ask Him to save you and accept you into His family. You got this!

Step 1: Find a Bible
HOW GOD SPEAKS TO YOU
The first step after repentance and believing in Jesus Christ is to start to read the bible. God speaks to his people, now you, primarily through his written word, the bible. Find a bible you can clearly understand and start to read it often. God will start to reveal more and more about himself as you read about him. We recommend that you start reading the new testament (this is all about Jesus). Read the books of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. After this, continue to the rest of the new testament. Then start to read the old testament; Genesis, Exodus, etc.
Here are some translations we recommend when finding your first bible:
NIV (New International Version) This one is a bit easier to read.
ESV (English Standard Version) This one is a bit more accurate to the original texts.
Both are great places to start.
Step 2: Start to pray
HOW YOU SPEAK TO GOD
The next step is to start to pray. God speaks to us primarily through his word, the bible, but we speak to God primarily through prayer. The christian life is not a life of rules and regulations, it is a life of relationship. God loves us and we respond to his love. He desires to have a relationship with us, He desires to communicate with us. We do this by talking to him, by praying.
This might seem a bit odd and challenging at first but it is one of the most rewarding things we can do as believers. Keep it simple. Speak to God as if you are having a conversation with a friend. It may feel one sided at first but you will soon start to experience that God speaks back. He speaks through his word (the bible), he answers our prayers throughout our day, and if you allow Him, he speaks to our hearts directly. God is alive and he wants to communicate with you.
Pray often, out loud, silently, journaling, etc. But make it a daily routine in your new life as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Step 3: Find a church
HOW GOD MINISTERS TO YOU
Some say “All I need is Jesus, I don’t need organized religion”. Others say “the church is full of hypocrites”.
Sorry to break it to you, but other people are part of God’s plan for your life. We belong to God, we are his children, and God commands us to be a part of one another’s lives. God commands us to worship together. God commands us to pray for one another. God commands us to help one another when we are in need. God commands us to keep one another accountable. There’s no way around it, the only way to accomplish all of these things is to be part of a local church. People are messy but they are also amazing!
How to pick a church:
Lets start with which churches are not really churches.
Steer clear of the mormon church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints). They don’t actually believe in the Jesus of the bible and are considered a cult.
Steer clear of Jehovah’s witnesses (Kingdom hall). There are some serious issues here and they have an inaccurate/distorted version of the bible.
What kind of churches to look for:
Any church that is committed to faithfully teaching the bible. The bible should be the ONLY authority on how the church is operated. If a church is more preoccupied with historical tradition, staying relevant, or drawing a crowd rather than obeying the bible then find a church that keeps it simple but sticks close to obeying the bible.
Things to look for: people who love Jesus, humble people, people who love to study the bible together, smiles on faces, people who are willing to keep you accountable when are starting to disobey God with your actions.
There is a balance to finding a church. Don’t take too long. They are all filled with people. People are not perfect, so you wont find a perfect church. But God loves his church so don’t miss out by getting “analysis paralysis”.

Step 4: Start to do things for God
HOW WE MINISTER TO GOD
We all get to take part in God’s mission for the world. We are all made differently and God has specific gifts he has given you so you can uniquely use them to serve others. But there are things that ALL of us are called to do.
One thing we are all called to do is to share the gospel message to those around us. Start to tell others about Jesus. Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your coworkers (HR will be fine!), tell your crazy uncle, tell your enemies. Theres no skill needed, just tell them your story, tell them that they need Jesus, tell them that Jesus died on the cross for them. If they ask why? If you get stuck.. just give them this website and we will help in the process.
Start to serve others in your church. Start to volunteer. The bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive, so start to give your time, energy, and love to those who are part of your local church.
Start to serve others in your community. Feed others, clothe others, listen to others. Always remember, our primary goal is to minister to others on a spiritual level, meaning to share the gospel so they can have salvation. So while you are helping others on a physical level, don’t neglect the spiritual.
One of the most important things you can do for others is to pray for others. Pray for their salvation. Pray for their blessings. Pray for God to intervene in the salvation of their families. Do you want to help others? Pray for them.
And always remember that we do things out of a response rather as a prerequisite. Meaning, God gave us his salvation free of charge: he does not require any works of service from us as a prerequisite for his love and salvation. But because of what he has done for us, we are willing to listen to him and minister to others on his behalf. It is motivated out of love and obedience rather than fear and obligation.
If you don’t know where to start you are more than welcome to volunteer with us. We would love to have you!
